My First Year Participating

by Tracey Gower
(Bolling AFB, DC)

I look forward to the day of the Wreath Laying ceremonies with conflicting emotions. One part of me is excited and proud and honored to be a part of this tradition. To remember our fallen soldiers anytime of the year is special, more so during the holiday time. To bring, somewhat, of a comfort and an honor to past heroes who have been laid to rest.

But also with a heavy heart for all of those that rest within the cemetery walls. The sacrifices they have made, the lives that were cut to short. The families they have left behind.

I know it will be a day full of smiles and a day full of tears. I cannot hear the National Anthem on the radio at noon without choking up a bit. And I wouldn’t have it any other way!!

It will be a family day for me as well. My mother and Aunt are flying down from NH just to participate with me. And many more family members and friends will be there with us in spirit; guiding our hands, warming our toes and silently remembering those that have fallen so that we may continue to live.

God Bless America and God Bless our Troops.

With all my heart,
Tracey, proud USAF wife
Bolling AFB, DC
