Whats happening in Alton, Il

by Margaret Hopkins
(Alton, Il)

This year at the Alton National Cemetery we will be laying 530 wreaths. There will be a ritual ceremony performed by the VFW Post 1380. Boy Scouts and Veterans will work hand and hand to lay the wreaths. We began accepting and encouraging sponsorship for the wreaths on Oct 15, needing $4200 to make our goal. As of today we are only $1500 away from our that figure. So many people have been generous not only with donations but with their time. On Dec 3rd ladies are gathering for a Bow Blitz (making 530 bows) and then on Dec 9th for a Bow Tie party (attaching bows to wreaths). We are very encouraged and excited about this event and hope it will be our First Annual Alton Wreaths Across America Event.
